The film is not simply a beautifully reconstructed photo, but it is also a photo with sacred value, carrying the spirit and will of the martyrs.
To better understand the message of this film, a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper had a conversation with director Nguyen Quang Quyet - Screenwriter and director of the movie "Spirit".
"Visions" are touching stories about the heroic sacrifices of Martyrs and Heroes as well as their relatives. Where did you get the idea to make this movie, sir?
- In my opinion, among the many tributes to the sacrifices and losses of martyrs' families, photo restoration is a very practical and powerful action. Because many families still do not have pictures to worship and remind their children and grandchildren about their ancestors.
And the restoration of portraits of Martyrs and Heroes partly eases the painful loss of the families.

How did being a director for your own script bring you many advantages and disadvantages?
- When both writing the script and directing, I encountered both advantages and disadvantages. Overall, I had many advantages: I understood the script, the characters, the content as well as the intentions I wanted to carry out.
However, the fact that the director writes the script himself can easily lead to excessive personal subjectivity when making the film. If another director were to execute the script, they would probably have a different, more objective perspective. Therefore, I have to discuss and listen to the opinions of the crew, the Editor and the Art Council to edit in the most reasonable way.
During the making of the movie "The Vision" with the group TeamLee, was there any story from the group that touched you?
- There are many touching stories that TeamLee made during the journey of restoring and handing over photos, each photo is a story, a page in the history of Martyrs and their relatives. TeamLee prioritizes making photos for Martyrs but also for elderly parents. Because time passes, mothers' health becomes older and older.
Having a photo of a Martyr when my mother was still alive is a great comfort. That is also the motivation that helped us have the opportunity to know each other and complete this film early.

The film uses a lot of synchronized speech and character interviews. Can you share more about the difficulties in completing the script and filming the movie "Spirit"?
- Right from the beginning when developing the script, I determined to make a film that uses many synchronous words (character narratives) as the film's circuit, so asking questions and creating emotions for the characters also needed to be considered. before. When going to the shooting scene, discussions with the crew, especially the Sound Engineer, are discussed specifically and in detail such as: time and space factors.
To ensure the best recording quality. Determining that the main synchronization of the character will be the emotional circuit, so pushing and capturing the emotions is also very proactive by the crew during the recording process.
This is a film where we basically used compact, portable filming equipment. The characters are not affected or controlled by the device, so their emotions are not broken.
What is the message that the film crew wants to send to the soldiers and people, especially the younger generation, sir?
- The war has passed but the pain still lingers. Healing the wounds of war is not just the responsibility of any individual or organization, it is the responsibility of the entire society.
The actions of TeamLee - The boys of the ZenZ generation are proof that young people are not indifferent to the sacrifices and losses of their ancestors. You should choose how to act so that your gratitude is meaningful and has the best impact on the community.

In your opinion, what makes these films attractive to young audiences?
- I feel lucky that some of the films I made on the subject of soldiers in both war and peacetime received the attention of the audience. Especially young people, through each work, my team and I will learn many lessons and experiences to be able to make the following works better and win more love from the audience.
It is the comments, shares and encouragement from the audience that will be the source of motivation for me and my team to improve ourselves in each work.
The topic of soldiers, war , and revolution is always a treasure. If we continue to exploit this issue, we will discover other issues. Even the same content but under a different lens will give us a newer approach.
We still owe a lot to history, so we have to dig deep and search for those treasures. That is the land for filmmakers who love historical and revolutionary war topics to explore and achieve success. I firmly believe so!
Thank you!
