The Ho Chi Minh City National University Student Football Tournament - THACO CUP 2024 is an activity to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20, 1982 - November 20, 2024) and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh City National University's establishment and development (January 27, 1995 - January 27, 2025).
This year's tournament has 8 member universities of Ho Chi Minh City National University, including: University of Technology, University of Natural Sciences, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, International University, University of Information Technology, University of Economics and Law, An Giang University, University of Health Sciences.
Accordingly, 8 teams are divided equally into 2 groups. Each group will play a round robin to determine the ranking points. The first and second teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals. The two semi-final winners will compete for the championship. In the semi-finals and finals, if the two teams are tied after the official match time, a penalty shootout will be held to determine the winner.
In the opening match of the tournament, the University of Technology won convincingly with a score of 5-1 against An Giang University. Meanwhile, the University of Information Technology and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities drew 1-1.
The tournament is co-organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University and other units, Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company (THACO) is the main sponsor. The champion team will receive a trophy and a prize of up to 50 million VND. The second place team will receive 30 million VND; the third place team will receive 10 million VND.
