GE Vernova Foundation and Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST) - a non-profit organization - have just announced the Renew Skills project, in collaboration with Vietnam Electric Power University.
The project, funded by ASSIST and funded by USD 750,000, will be implemented over three years and will include activities to equip and enhance the skills of university, college and technical students, thereby contributing to meeting the demand for skilled labor in Vietnam’s renewable energy value chain.
One of the biggest challenges facing the energy sector in the coming decade is the growing demand for skilled workers, surpassing other sectors. The global energy sector is facing a shortage of skilled and technical workers. As Vietnam moves towards its goal of net zero emissions by 2050, it will need a skilled and qualified workforce to build a sustainable energy future.
The Renew Skills Project will support current and future workforce through new courses for technicians and students. The courses are expected to focus on wind power operations, maintenance, grid connection, and occupational safety.
At the same time, the project and its partners will establish and provide training facilities on renewable energy for five laboratories, including two Training Centers of Excellence, at universities and colleges to serve the courses. The project is expected to reach more than 4,000 students and technicians in the next 3 years.
