The victims were identified as L.D.B and L.T.L.S, both 7 years old, 2nd grade students at Cha Nua Primary School and residing in Na Su village, Cha Nua commune.
On the afternoon of October 18, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Thung Van Anh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Cha Nua Commune said that the incident happened at noon that day. After the morning class ended, the children went home to eat because Friday afternoon was a day off. At around 1 p.m., the two children invited each other to the stream to play and unfortunately drowned.
Upon discovering the incident, local people performed first aid and quickly took the children to the Commune Health Station for emergency treatment. However, both of them did not survive. The families took the children's bodies home for burial according to custom.
It is known that both drowned students have mothers who work far from home, and they stay at home with their father. During the week, they still eat lunch at school and are picked up by their families in the evening. From Friday noon to Sunday, they stay at home under the supervision of their families.
Currently, local authorities and the school have visited, encouraged and supported the families of the two students in funeral arrangements.
