Tourism in Kiên Giang Exceeds Rain and Storms, Still Brings in High Revenue

NGUYÊN ANH |

Despite being affected by bad weather on multiple occasions, tourism in Kiên Giang, exemplified by Phú Quốc, still attracts a large number of visitors and generates high revenue.

According to the Kiên Giang Department of Tourism, the summer season is the peak time for the domestic tourism market, but it also comes with many bad weather conditions. Entering the rainy season, there are times when the boats to the islands have to temporarily stop, but overall, the tourism activities of Kiên Giang are still developing quite well, with an increase in the number of visitors and revenue compared to the same period last year.

In the first 7 months of 2024, Kiên Giang is estimated to welcome nearly 6.7 million visitors, with a total revenue of nearly 15,600 billion VND. Specifically, TP Phú Quốc welcomes nearly 4 million visitors (of which over 562,000 are international visitors), with a total revenue of over 12,800 billion VND.

To meet the needs of tourists, many travel companies and localities have designed suitable tour itineraries, improved or innovated products, and launched many promotional packages to attract tourists. Many tourism companies have launched promotional programs, implemented according to different groups of visitors, sold tours with 0% interest rates; programs with refunds when paying by credit card, discounts for students, and other promotions to help tourists optimize their expenses.

According to the Kiên Giang Tourism Association, despite the unpredictable weather, tourism businesses have proactively adapted and continuously upgraded their facilities, especially ensuring the safety of tourists. They have timely changed tour packages according to weather conditions to ensure that tourists can still follow their itinerary.

Director of the Kiên Giang Department of Tourism Bùi Quốc Thái said that localities have implemented many promotional and marketing solutions, strengthened state management of tourism, and called on tourism businesses to develop products and facilities to serve tourists.

To attract tourists, the province has requested tourism businesses to continuously upgrade their facilities, innovate tourism products, focusing on increasing the experience and safety of tourists... In addition, they have strengthened promotional and marketing activities for Kiên Giang tourism to domestic and international markets; coordinated with famtrip delegations to survey Kiên Giang...

Furthermore, Phú Quốc and Vietnam Airlines are currently considering operating night flights and developing a package product combining accommodation and air tickets. This will help reduce air ticket prices and stimulate domestic tourism.

Chairman of the People's Committee of TP Phú Quốc Huỳnh Quang Hưng said that Phú Quốc now has many international-standard entertainment and recreation areas, and the number of international visitors has increased significantly year by year. “Phú Quốc has, is, and will continue to improve the quality of services, develop more unique tourism products to attract tourists,” said Huỳnh Quang Hưng.

The Department of Tourism also believes that to effectively exploit the night flight program, there needs to be close coordination between the aviation industry, local authorities, and businesses, with a focus on flexible check-in and check-out policies, attractive nighttime tourism products, and other measures to attract tourists.
