Gia Lai - Provincial authorities need to closely monitor and supervise the environmental impact of large-scale pig farms in the area.

On September 23, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province said that in the western communes, there are a series of large-scale pig farming projects in the form of farms. Therefore, it is necessary to closely monitor the impact on the environment, especially wastewater treatment technology.

The western communes of Gia Lai province currently have more than 200 pig farming projects in the form of farms. According to the assessment, in the past, some farms have not fully complied with regulations on environmental protection.

The taxpayer will fine small-scale farms that cause pollution from 1015 million VND, while large-scale farms will be 1520 million VND. While the investment capital of the projects is up to hundreds of billions of VND, the current penalty level is considered light, not enough to deter violating businesses.

There are currently no regulations on technology appraisal for large-scale livestock projects. The regulation on the distance between the farm and the residential area is still nearly (100400m). The competent authority is proposing that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment amend the relevant circular to ensure environmental safety, hygiene and disease prevention.

In addition, investors are encouraged to comply with land laws, environmental laws, and apply modern livestock technology. The Department also advised the Provincial People's Committee to strictly handle businesses and farms that pollute the environment and affect people's lives.

The issue of livestock farming also affects local security and order, rural security. Gia Lai is currently the province with the largest number of pig farming projects in the country, concentrated too much in some communes, while the use of local labor is very limited.

The livestock industry needs to have long-term orientation and planning to avoid violating the law. The planning, state management and appraisal of livestock projects must be carried out closely and thoroughly.
