"Thanks to the Rach mop sluice has been operating effectively since the beginning of the dry season, preventing salinity and storing fresh water has had a clear effect. The abundant water source helps longan trees bloom and bear stable fruit, thanks to which we can feel secure in production," Mr. Lanh shared.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ut, a farmer in An My commune (Ke Sach district) excitedly said: "Previously, every dry season, I was worried, every day I had to go to the river to check the salinity. At the same time, it also helps to minimize the impact of drought and salinity, proactively supplying fresh water to over 36,000 hectares in both Soc Trang and Hau Giang provinces.

"This is not just a simple irrigation project but also has a strategic scale, contributing to the implementation of the goal of sustainable agricultural development, adapting to climate change, and protecting the livelihoods of thousands of households in the project area," Mr. Nam affirmed.

Basal, sustainable solutions

According to the Vice Chairman of Soc Trang Provincial People's Committee, the system of irrigation works controlling the existing water source in the province also creates a close link between areas in the area of Ca Mau peninsula, enhancing the ability to control saline intrusion for coastal provinces in the East and West Sea; Contributing to the formation of natural soft drink reservoirs with billions of cubic meters on rivers, canals and canals, effectively serving the socio -economic development of the whole region.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep said that investing in building a closed irrigation system, ensuring water security is a fundamental solution for the Mekong Delta to develop sustainably in the context of increasingly complex climate change.

Mr. Hiep informed that the Government is currently developing a comprehensive project to respond to droughts, saline intrusion and urban flooding for provinces in the region, with special attention paid to construction solutions such as Rach mop culvert, which can regulate and regulate fresh salinity combined with high tide prevention.

Located on Rach Mo river, about 500 meters from Hau River, bordering Nhon My commune (Ke Sach district) and Song Phung commune (Long Phu district), Rach Mang sluice is the third largest irrigation project in the Mekong Delta. The project was started in January 2023, put into temporary operation in mid -February of February 2025 and officially put into use on April 19. The project has an investment of more than VND 500 billion, water width of 85m, automatic monitoring and monitoring system. When the salinity in front of the sewer exceeds 2g/l, the valve door will automatically close to protect the fresh water inside.
