On October 11, the leader of the Huong Tra Town Medical Center (Thua Thien Hue) said that patient T.K.H. (58 years old, residing in Huong Xuan ward) with streptococcus suis after being treated at Hue Central Hospital, branch 2, has recovered and been discharged from the hospital.
Previously, on September 27, Mr. H.'s illness started with symptoms of intermittent high fever and chills. He took fever-reducing medicine but it did not improve. Afterwards, Mr. H. was taken to the Huong Tra Town Medical Center for examination by his family.
The patient was transferred to the Department of Infectious Diseases, Hue Central Hospital, Branch 2, for treatment and was diagnosed with sepsis. The blood culture test result on October 3 was positive for Streptococcus Suis.
According to the epidemiological investigation, the patient’s family raised 13 pigs. On September 20, all of these pigs were sold. The family said that the pigs were not sick when they were sold, and that they occasionally ate pork bought from the market of unknown origin.
Huong Tra Town Health Center informed that after 2 weeks of investigation, there were no sick pigs in the patient's house and no people in the surrounding area had similar diseases. According to information from the staff of the town's Livestock and Veterinary Station, there was no blue ear pig disease in the area.
The leader of Huong Tra Town Health Center said that after receiving information about the case, relevant agencies investigated people in contact with the patient's family and around the patient's house, and did not find anyone with similar symptoms.
