People are "shocked" by electricity bills
In early July, many households in Lang Son reported the situation of the June electricity bill suddenly skyrocketing, at least 30% higher than last month, with some households recording a double or even tripling increase, causing many people to be "shocked" and worried.
Receiving the electricity bill, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tham (Dong Kinh ward, Lang Son province) was shocked when the electricity bill she had to pay this month was nearly 5 million VND, 3 times or even 4 times higher than previous months.
Ms. Tham shared: "Normally, my family's electricity bill will range from about 1.2-14 million VND per month, suddenly this month it will be up to 4.9 million VND, I was really shocked when receiving the bill".
According to Ms. Tham, the amount of electricity consumed is mainly used for basic household appliances such as refrigerators, lights, cooking, air conditioners and serving the operations of a hair salon at home with an area of 30m2.
"In June, the amount of electricity consumed was even less than previous months because there were few customers coming to wash their hair and do hair. Even during Tet, my family uses a lot of electrical equipment, but the electricity bill is only over 1 million VND. I raise my child in college, all expenses are carefully calculated, now the electricity bill has increased abnormally, causing confusion for the whole family," said Ms. Tham.
Similarly, Mr. Hoang Kim Dung (Bac Son commune, Lang Son) also said that in previous months, his family's electricity bill was only over 800,000 VND, but this month it has increased to over 1.6 million VND.
Sharing the same frustration, Ms. Hoang Thi Hoai (Huu Lung commune) said: "When I received the electricity bill, I was extremely confused because last month, my family also reduced the water pump to irrigate the plants due to heavy rain, the crusher has been off for the past 2 months, the air conditioner is not too hot this year so there is little turning on. If I pay for electricity like this, I don't know where to get it next month."
Some households said that they are concerned that the bill for next month may be even higher if the weather continues to be hot.
"Selling is already sluggish, now the electricity bill has increased dramatically. It was really stressful. I want the electricity industry to check the meters, I can't let people suffer like this," Ms. Tham added.
Lang Son Power Company speaks out
In response to information about the sudden increase in electricity bills, the leader of Lang Son Power Company said that immediately after receiving the customers' recommendations, Lang Son Power Company directed the electricity management teams in the area to conduct an inspection and re-examination of the indicators and operation status of electricity meters of more than 1,000 customers, most of whom are households.
Through the review, the results showed that all indicators of the electric meter were correct, the meter worked accurately. The electricity teams even worked with customers to remove meters to take for inspection at a professional agency in front of the customers themselves.
Notably, all households have an electricity bill increase of over 30% compared to the previous month.
However, the leaders of the electricity industry also admitted that the hot season is the main reason for the sharp increase in electricity consumption, especially when cooling equipment such as air conditioners, fans, refrigerators, etc. are more active. In addition, the method of calculating electricity prices in a progressive scale pushes the bill up if the consumption level exceeds a certain threshold.
To limit the situation of electricity bills in July 2025 continuing to increase, Lang Son Power Company recommends that customers turn off electrical equipment when not in use; avoid using equipment with high capacity for a long time, turn on the air conditioner from 26 degrees Celsius or higher, combined with a fan.
Along with that, take advantage of natural light instead of electric lights during the day.
Although the electricity industry has explained, many households in Lang Son are still worried, because the sudden increase in June has caused many families to struggle, having to recalculate all essential expenses in the middle of the hot summer.
