Not only did he make his mark in Vietnamese cinema with his first role in "The Comedy Project" winning the Gold Medal at the 1998 National Television Festival, he also devoted most of his life to supporting people in the same situation to confidently integrate into society.
In a conversation with MC Ngoc Lan, Phan Sang shared that the biggest motivation comes from being determined when seeing many disabled people living a closed life and lacking faith. He confided: "I think I have to do something to make people with disabilities recognized and integrated with everyone".
Although he started out as an amateur actor and did not have proper training, Phan Sang diligently learned to fully transform into each character. He recalled: The first day I went on set, I held the script and worried about how I would read it. I can't sleep at night because I'm both happy and scared." The surprise success with the Gold Medal was a turning point, for him to realize his responsibility: "I am a disabled person and the conditions that society has created, so I have to try to do well, not be discouraged".
Having fame, instead of worrying about himself, he chose to spend most of his income on community activities. He initiated a sports movement and organized 1/6 play programs for children with disabilities. People ask me why I dont keep money, but I think I have to do something useful for the day I live, he shared.
Life has repeatedly challenged Phan Sang. When he was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, he was still resiliently optimistic. Just a week after surgery, although his weight was reduced to 31kg, he still drove himself to organize a program for disabled children. As long as you live, you have to take advantage of the useful work, he said.
When asked if he regrets putting his acting career on hold, Phan Sang calmly said: I think it is fate. If you continue to regret, your will will will fall. I always believe that tomorrow will be better.
The story of actor Phan Sang is a testament to his extraordinary determination and enduring kindness - a person who always sows faith and reapes hope for the less fortunate.
