"The Bride of a Rich Family" takes the theme of being a daughter-in-law of a rich family and exploits the story of social status, lifestyle and rules of the upper class from a humorous and satirical perspective.
Introduced as a family with a long history of prestigious traditional handicraft business, in reality, Tu Lac's (played by Uyen An) parents work in the production of votive paper.
Tu Lac helps her family escape poverty by planning to marry Bao Hoang, the CEO of a medical corporation. To approach Bao Hoang and overcome the most difficult obstacle, his mother, Mrs. Phuong (played by Thu Trang), Tu Lac's family will become a wealthy, long-standing intellectual family.
Thu Trang said that the biggest reason she accepted the role of Mrs. Phuong in the film was because of director Vu Ngoc Dang. Previously, Vu Ngoc Dang directed the film "Con Nhot nhot chong" for Thu Trang, and since then the two have maintained a close relationship.
When starting the project, Vu Ngoc Dang invited Thu Trang. Initially, she refused him 3 times.
The actress said: "When I first read the script, I felt that the role of Mrs. Phuong was not suitable. However, Mr. Dang convinced me to challenge myself with a new role rather than stick to the familiar image.
I was convinced, reread the script carefully and saw that the character had inner depth and hidden meanings, and I told myself that this was probably what the director chose me to portray. I also wanted to challenge myself, to bring new colors to the audience.
Participating in this project was largely due to Mr. Vu Ngoc Dang. My biggest difficulty in the film was the dialogue and character of Mrs. Phuong.
For this film, I often reviewed the script to relearn every word. The director did not let me make mistakes in my lines. Sometimes I felt a bit uncomfortable, but he told me to just try to get the lines right. This is the first film I have felt pressured about this issue."
At the same time, Thu Trang also expressed her trust in the script as well as the director's ability and working style. "Making a film with someone we know is easier because we understand each other. If Dang wants something, he just needs to say it and I will understand immediately and vice versa. We rely on each other to do it."
Regarding the question of whether she is afraid to touch on the subject because the film mentions "the background", Thu Trang shared: "A film is a film, life is life. I only care about the role".
Regarding the salary issue, Thu Trang added: "When inviting me, Mr. Dang did not care about the salary. He only did his job as a director well. As for the salary, the producer will proactively work with my company."
Thu Trang was born in 1984 and studied at the College of Theater and Cinema, Ho Chi Minh City. She started performing comedy in 2002, when she was still a student. After more than 20 years of working in the arts, Thu Trang has established a solid position in the profession and is one of the most successful film producers today.
