On November 6, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport coordinated with Tien Phong Newspaper to organize a seminar on Identifying and combating fake news in the AI era.
Captain Huynh Do Tan Thinh - Special Police Team, Criminal Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police said that there are currently many different types of scams, but to be easy to remember and respond to, students only need to grasp some basic forms to easily prevent them.
Most commonly, impersonating state agencies, police, lecturers or schools to request information, money transfers; recruitment, fake jobs; distributing links containing disguised malware in the form of games, gifts or online love scams, in which bad guys take the victim's heart and threaten to release sensitive clips to blackmail.
Captain Thinh emphasized: "Students need to be very vigilant with too intimate messages from strangers".
He also noted two popular scams: "Zero-dong shippers", targeting the curious mentality of receiving free mails, and scams to study abroad, fake scholarships targeting people who dream of studying abroad but lack experience, leading to the loss of hundreds of millions of VND.
In addition, Captain Thinh recommends that students practice accessing reliable information sources, instead of depending on short social networking platforms. He believes that many fake news originate from short videos that spread quickly, easily manipulating the emotions of viewers.
"Spend at least some time a day watching news or reading official newspapers. Those sources help them understand society more comprehensively and more alertly in the face of the current information storm," said Captain Thinh.
