On January 17, Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company said that it had sent a document to the Traffic Safety Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the Traffic Safety Committee of Dong Nai province regarding the situation of road vehicles crashing into railway crossings.
At some guarded level crossings managed by Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province, there are frequent incidents where road vehicle drivers, due to not paying attention to the system of signs, bells, and lights indicating that a train is about to cross the level crossing, and not controlling their speed, have crashed into the barrier while the staff is performing the operations of closing the barrier to receive the train.
In 2023, there were 24 incidents, in 2024 there were 19 incidents, most recently there were 2 incidents on the night of January 8, 2025 and January 13, 2025.
Through statistics and extraction of surveillance camera images, most incidents occurred late at night, and most of the motorcyclists were drunk (especially on holidays and Tet).
The above incidents caused injuries to motorcyclists (some fatal) and railway staff, damaged railway equipment, and seriously affected train safety.
To ensure traffic safety on level crossings, especially during the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival in 2025, Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company requests the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Safety Committee and the Dong Nai Province Traffic Safety Committee to coordinate with railway units to promote propaganda work to raise awareness among traffic participants.
At the same time, direct the functional forces to increase patrols, checkpoints, and direct fines... at railway and road intersections as above or impose fines offline through videos provided by Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company.
