According to the family, the child was using his hand to pick up something when he accidentally put his left hand in a cup hood with a touch mechanism, causing the machine to activate and causing serious injuries. As soon as they discovered it, relatives quickly found the broken fingers, gave first aid to stop the bleeding, and took the baby to the nearest hospital before transferring him to the National Children's Hospital.
At the Emergency and Poison Control Department, doctors found that the three fingers I, II, III of the child were seriously damaged, with crushed bones, blood vessels and nerves.
Immediately, the surgical team led by MSc. Dr. Nguyen Vu Hoang - Department of Orthopedics - and doctors specializing in orthopedics, anesthesia, resuscitation... consulted and decided to perform emergency surgery that night to save the child's finger.
The surgery lasted nearly 2 hours and was successful. Doctors treated software damage, re- place nails, and phagoform to avoid the risk of having to cut the big spot. This was a difficult surgery because the damaged area was the farthest bite of the finger, where the arteries and nerves were very small. If not intervened promptly, the fingers can be necrosed and completely lose function.
After surgery, the patient continued to be treated at the Orthopedic Surgery Department with antibiotics, painkillers and daily ice supplements. After two weeks, the wound was dry, the ring finger was warm, the child recovered well and was discharged from the hospital. However, the child still needs to continue changing the bandage and receiving rehabilitation treatment to ensure normal finger movement.
MSc. Dr. Nguyen Vu Hoang said that the Department of Ornamental Surgery receives many cases of children who have lost their fingers due to household accidents such as counter-attacking with firecrackers, using knives... every year and has successfully had surgery to connect the fingers. However, to ensure the best recovery, first aid and proper preservation of the severed limb is very important. Steps to take immediately after the accident:
Wash the severed limbs with saline or clean water (no soap or chemicals).
Cover with a clean cloth or cloth, avoid covering it too thick.
Place in a sealed plastic box, then put in a melting ice pack.
In case the child has an accident, proper first aid and taking the child to a specialized medical facility as soon as possible is the deciding factor for treatment outcomes.
