On July 15, the City Children's Hospital informed the unit receiving the treatment of male patient D.Q.H (6 years old, Ca Mau) bitten by a snake.
Medical history shows that 4 hours after being admitted to the hospital, children ran past the neighbor's house to play. On the way, the child suffered a red-tailed snake falling from the mattress above, biting the left big toe, causing pain and bleeding.
The family stopped the child's blood and caught the snake. The child was taken to a local hospital for first aid to stop the bleeding, given an infusion and transferred to the City Children's Hospital.
Here, doctors recorded children with swollen thumbs, ban and left ankle, acute and prolonged bleeding. Tests showed that the child had severe blood clotting disorder.
The child was diagnosed with a red-tailed snake bit and was given special anti-stomach snake Serum. However, the child's condition did not improve after 6 hours.
Therefore, the child was given a second administration of snake repellent serum. After 12 hours, the child was no longer bleeding, the wound was less swollen and bruised.
Doctor Nguyen Minh Tien - Deputy Director of the City Children's Hospital recommends that during the rainy season, parents should pay attention to clearing the surrounding area to avoid leaving snake, bee, and insect in the house to attack children; at the same time, instruct children to pay attention when walking in fields and treetops because they are easily attacked by toxic snake venom.
It is best to wear boots when working in the fields and gardens. Avoid walking on soil, avoid climbing trees because they can also be bitten by snake bites or have a high risk of falling.
