The fight for the lives of children
Patient D.K.L was hospitalized with respiratory failure, purple skin, and lethargy after his neighbor discovered a black and white striped snake (suspected to be a langur) passing near the child. The family did not see the bite clearly, but about three hours later the child began to be drowsy and had difficulty breathing, had to be treated at Binh Lieu Medical Center, placed in the tracheum and transferred to Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.
When admitted, the child was in a coma, had a died at sea, and had severe respiratory failure. Doctors discovered a small drop on the left toe suspected to be a bite, and tests showed hyponatremia in the blood. Initial diagnosis: respiratory failure/anesthesia/monitoring the bite of aopecia snake. Immediately, the child was actively resuscitated, on a ventilator, prevented from brain edema and received special care.
After 15 days of stress treatment, the child gradually regained consciousness, stopped using a ventilator and was now healthy, able to play on his own, and was discharged from the hospital to the joy of his family and the medical team.
Biceps - an unpredictable danger
According to BSCKI An Hoang Yen, Department of Intensive Care, Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, niac snake is one of the most common venomous snake species in Vietnam. The bite of this snake often leaves no clear signs, only two small drops like a needle tip can be seen, which is easy to ignore.
People with bites often quickly experience symptoms of paralysis throughout the body, respiratory failure, and maximum expansion of the liver. If not detected and treated promptly, especially in young children, the risk of death is very high.
Experts recommend that people need to:
Avoid going to damp, dark, dusty places - where snake residents often live.
When going to the forest or working outdoors, you should wear long pants, wear boots, use a roadmap and carry a flashlight when going at night.
Do not deposit to break the snake, keep a safe distance if you encounter it.
Regularly clean the garden and remove snake shelters around the house.
Handling when bitten by a snake: keep calm, apply a bandage and fix the bitten limb, take the victim to the nearest medical facility as soon as possible. Do not apply folk methods, do not self-treat at home and absolutely do not try to catch or kill snake.
