Abnormal signs warning about kidney health

When the body shows unusual signs, it can warn that the kidneys are having problems.

Change in urination habits

Changes in urine color and frequency can be a warning sign of kidney health. An unusually increased need to urinate frequently requires a check-up for diagnosis.

Swelling in the limbs

Healthy kidneys maintain fluid balance by removing excess water and sodium. When the kidneys cannot perform this function, fluid builds up in the body, leading to swelling (edema), especially in the ankles, feet, and hands.

Shortness of breath

Another important warning sign of kidney health to watch out for is shortness of breath. Impaired kidney function can lead to fluid buildup, making breathing difficult.

High blood pressure

The kidneys and blood pressure are closely linked. Healthy kidneys regulate blood pressure by balancing sodium levels and releasing hormones that control blood vessel tension. When the kidneys are damaged, high blood pressure can result.

Nausea or vomiting

When the kidneys fail, it can lead to an abnormal buildup of toxins in the blood, which can lead to symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. This condition is called uremia, which affects the digestive system.

Skin problems

When the kidneys cannot effectively remove waste from the blood, these toxins can build up in the skin, leading to intense itching (pruritus). Additionally, an imbalance of minerals such as calcium and phosphorus due to kidney damage can cause dry, flaky skin or rashes.
