Diabetes is a chronic disease and the fastest growing global health concern of the 21st century.
According to 2021 figures, there are 537 million people with diabetes worldwide. This number is expected to reach 643 million by 2030. It is estimated that 1 in 11 adults will have diabetes.
In Vietnam, diabetes is one of the top three causes of death. It is estimated that about 7 million Vietnamese people have diabetes, of which more than half of them have not been diagnosed.
If not controlled promptly, diabetes can lead to complications related to diseases such as myocardial infarction, stroke, kidney failure, limb amputation, vision loss, peripheral nerve damage and increased patient mortality.
Faced with the above challenges, the Vietnam Association of Endocrinology and Diabetes and related units have launched the iCARE+ application on the App Store and Google Play.
Patients can easily use the features on the application such as scanning prescriptions and setting automatic medication reminders - helping users maintain regular medication intake; recording, storing and monitoring health indicators (blood sugar index, HbA1c index, blood pressure, weight...); supporting disease progression monitoring and evaluating treatment effectiveness...
According to Prof. Dr. Tran Huu Dang - President of the Southeast Asian Endocrine Federation, President of the Vietnam Endocrine - Diabetes Association, Vice President of Duy Tan University: "In addition to the care of medical experts, self-management of the disease in each diabetic patient plays a very important role in controlling the disease and preventing long-term complications".
Many experts also commented that, in addition to measures such as enhancing education and popularizing knowledge through electronic information portals... applying technology is considered the optimal solution to help diabetic patients and their relatives control their blood sugar at home.
