On February 13, the Gia Lai Provincial Center for Disease Control confirmed that there had just been a death due to rabies in Ha Tay commune, Chu Pah district.
The victim was Mr. N (born in 1966, residing in Kon So Lang village, Ha Tay commune). Previously, Mr. N had numbness from his forearm down to his right hand. He went to a private clinic for examination and was diagnosed with cervical spondylosis.
On February 11, he showed signs of numbness in his hands and mental agitation. By the morning of February 12, his condition worsened with symptoms of mental confusion, shaking hands, and agitation. His family took him to Gia Lai Provincial General Hospital.
At the Tropical Diseases Department, the patient was lethargic, had delirium, numbness and tremors in his right hand, showing clear symptoms of rabies. After hearing the doctor explain his condition, his family asked to take him home in Kon So Lang village for care and the patient died shortly thereafter.
Currently, the Provincial Center for Disease Control is verifying in the community, coordinating with local authorities to propagate the dangers of rabies and rabies vaccination for dogs and cats.
