At the Forum on Medical Technology - Biotechnology and Digital Transformation for Healthcare Development held at the Hoa Lac National Innovation Center (Hanoi) co-organized by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science and Technology on October 1, experts shared research results and applications of cell therapy in Vietnam.
Accordingly, cell technology and stem cell transplantation have been applied in the treatment of cirrhosis, biliary atresia, spinal cord injury, knee osteoarthritis, and stem cell transplantation is being studied to treat stroke, traumatic brain injury, autism, cerebral palsy, and health decline in the elderly...
"In particular, for the first time in Vietnam, a case of acute lymphoblastic leukemia was successfully treated with CAR-T cell therapy. The patient who was successfully treated was a 4-year-old girl," informed Professor, Dr. Tran Huy Thinh, Hanoi Medical University.
Dr. Nguyen Ngo Quang, Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Training (Ministry of Health), said: In the context of increasing demand for health care in Vietnam, innovation in the medical field has been playing an important role in improving the quality of health care, enhancing the ability to diagnose and treat diseases, as well as promoting progress in the field of disease prevention.
"A number of new and modern formulation technologies have been researched and applied to pharmaceutical industrial production such as micro and nano technology; modified release formulation technology; targeted release formulation technology and a number of other advanced technologies to increase stability, increase bioavailability, increase therapeutic effects, reduce unwanted side effects of drugs to apply to the production of high-quality drugs, gradually replacing imported drugs, increasing accessibility for people," said Mr. Quang.
In the country, along with mastering new vaccine production technology, the application of molecular biology technology has contributed to quickly and accurately identifying pathogens to effectively prevent dangerous diseases and epidemics.
At the forum, experts commented that the common goal of innovation in biotechnology and cell technology today is to "increase value and reduce selling price".
This innovation must meet the following criteria: reasonable cost of cell therapy treatment and stable treatment effect, with large-scale cell production technology; high cell production yield; low possibility of treatment failure; ensuring cell quality, improving cell quality.
Cell therapy in general, and stem cell and immune cell therapy in particular, are adding an additional option to the treatment of diseases. For cell therapy to truly benefit many people, innovation in cell technology is required to increase the value and reduce the cost of therapy.
