On May 20, Nguyen Van Thu Medical Center (Vung Liem District, Vinh Long Province) inaugurated the Family Doctor Clinic - a model of comprehensive and continuous health care for people.
Dr. Lam Van Dung said that the family doctor model is gradually becoming a strategic direction of the health sector in innovating the primary health care system.
Different from traditional medical examination and treatment, this model emphasizes the long-term bond between doctors and patients, aiming at comprehensive care both physically and mentally, from disease prevention to treatment and post-treatment monitoring.
According to Dr. Lam Van Dung, clearly aware of that, Nguyen Van Thu Medical Center has proactively built and put into operation the Family Doctor Clinic as a strong, humane and dedicated transformation.
In the initial pilot phase, the clinic received 10 to 15 patients per day. However, after only 2 months of operation, the number of examinations has increased to about 65 patients per day. This shows the increasingly great trust of local people.

Most patients are satisfied when being examined by doctors with dedication, careful advice and thoughtful care. Many people said they are willing to return for follow-up check-ups at the clinic because of the professionalism and friendliness they feel.
"Not stopping there, Nguyen Van Thu Medical Center is currently continuing to build 2 new family doctor clinics thanks to the support of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital," Mr. Dung added.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hang - Director of Vinh Long Department of Health - emphasized: The Family Doctor Clinic at Nguyen Van Thu Medical Center is a concrete step to realize the Family Medicine pilot project for the period 2024-2026 that the province is implementing.
"The increasing number of patients not only shows the effectiveness of the model but also reflects the consensus and great expectations of the people for the health sector," Ms. Hang added.
