The People's Committee of Can Tho City has just issued a plan to enhance the capacity for managing and controlling animal diseases and ensuring food safety (FS) of animal-origin products in Can Tho City for the period 2024 - 2030.
Accordingly, the city aims for 100% of large-scale livestock farms producing livestock and poultry breeds to achieve disease safety certification as per regulations; veterinary forces will control 100% of animals brought into centralized slaughterhouses; annually, at least 10% of veterinary drugs circulating in the market will be quality monitored;...

Among the tasks and solutions to be implemented, Can Tho will invest in building, upgrading, and expanding animal quarantine stations at transportation hubs (such as Can Tho Bridge Animal Quarantine Station, Lo Te Animal Quarantine Station) to ensure compliance with legal regulations, thereby contributing to improving the effectiveness of animal quarantine, disease prevention, and food safety.
Notably, Can Tho will urgently review and classify all centralized animal slaughterhouses, inspect, monitor, and evaluate veterinary hygiene and FS conditions; conduct veterinary hygiene inspections and monitor FS of animal products at supermarkets, convenience stores, markets, animal product trading points, and livestock and poultry slaughterhouses.

With this plan, the People's Committee of Can Tho City assigns the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the city to lead, in coordination with city departments, agencies, and district-level People's Committees to organize implementation. The Market Management Department of Can Tho City will coordinate to promptly detect the transportation and trading of smuggled animals and animal products of unknown origin.
