On August 28, the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DONRE) of Can Tho City coordinated with Vina T&T Group to organize a Workshop on "Connecting the production and consumption of fruit trees according to market orientation".
According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of Can Tho City, in 2025, the whole city will have 102,194 hectares of fruit tree production area, with an output of nearly 860,000 tons in the first 8 months of the year. In particular, durian, mango, longan, star apple, lemon, ... are the main fruit trees of the city.
As of August 2025, Can Tho City has 579 growing area codes, with a total area of nearly 9,400 hectares. Most of the fruit tree output in the area is consumed through the purchasing system of traders. In addition, some collective economic organizations and farming households have initially implemented linkages for consumption, providing fruit to retail establishments in the city center or consuming through eco-tourism.
Currently, 194 cooperatives/cooperative groups/cooperative clubs have been formed in the area with an area of over 2,300 hectares. At the same time, there are 42 companies linking consumption with THT/HTX to produce and export with a total area of over 6,000 hectares.
Along with the production situation, the workshop brought practical contents on the requirements for exporting fruit trees of countries; the process of supporting cooperatives to build GlobalGAP raw material areas; introducing simulation of the post-harvest processing process of fruit products for export...
Through the discussion session, the workshop listened to and resolved many opinions of cooperatives and technology companies related to the issue of linking production according to market orientation such as agricultural product prices, production costs, food safety, product output and management of fertilizers, pesticidesidesidesidesidesidesidesidesides in the market, etc.
Concluding the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho City - affirmed that linking the production and consumption of fruit trees according to market orientation is an inevitable direction to develop sustainable and effective fruit trees.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will review the city's socio-economic development plan to develop raw material areas that meet the standards and requirements of the domestic and export markets, associated with brand building.
The agricultural sector continues to advise and coordinate with relevant units in deploying and implementing solutions, contributing to making Can Tho City's key agricultural products meet market requirements. At the same time, calling on cooperatives and enterprises to build chains linking production, processing and consumption of agricultural products.
Within the framework of the workshop, there was also an activity of awarding GlobalGAP certificates to Trang Ti Garden Cooperative and the signing ceremony of the GlobalGAP consumption cooperation agreement between Vina T&T Group and the Cooperative.
