On December 11, the People's Committee of Bao Loc City (Lam Dong) approved the project to develop the first silk production chain in the area. The project cost is 6.5 billion VND, of which the State budget supports 2.29 billion VND.
The project will link 24 households growing mulberry and raising silkworms with businesses including: Minh Tuyet Silk Co., Ltd., Ha Bao Silk Spinning - Weaving Co., Ltd., Viet Silk Co., Ltd. and Vietnam Golden Silk Co., Ltd.
In 2024, the mulberry growing area is expected to reach 45.6 hectares with an output of 1,380 tons of cocoons/year. By 2026, the silk output in the chain will reach about 546 - 1,638 kg/year.
The project aims to build a sustainable chain, create stable output for people and increase product value for Bao Loc silk.
Bao Loc is considered the silk capital of Vietnam with more than 800 hectares of mulberry with more than 700 silkworm farming households and nearly 30 silk production enterprises.
Annual export turnover reaches 20 - 21 million USD, mainly to markets such as Japan, Europe and the Middle East. The city has also granted the “Bao Loc Silk” certification mark to 14 enterprises, contributing to affirming the brand in the international market.
