On October 23, the Investigation Police Agency (IPA) of Binh Chanh District Police initiated a case, prosecuted the accused and issued an arrest warrant for Nguyen Thanh Dat (born in 1995, residing in Binh Chanh District), Le Binh (born in 1985, from Tay Ninh Province), Nguyen Hoang Thanh (born in 1976, residing in Binh Tan District), Nguyen Ngoc Duy Tung (born in 1994, living as a vagrant) for the crime of property theft.
Initial information, at around 5:00 p.m. on September 20, Tung went to Dat's house in Binh Tan district to play. There, Dat said that he saw that the coffee kiosk in Vinh Loc B commune, Binh Chanh district had no one watching, so he invited him to go steal property.
At 9 p.m. the same day, Binh took a motorbike taxi to Dat's house. There, Tung, Binh, Dat, and Thien (unknown background) living in Dat's house invited each other to steal property.
Then, Tung borrowed Dat's phone to call Thanh (a motorbike taxi driver) and asked Thanh to go steal, and Thanh agreed.
Thien did not go but lent Dat his motorbike to go steal. At around 2:20 a.m. on September 21, the group went to the Moc Gia Lai coffee kiosk owned by Ms. L. (born in 1987) on Lai Hung Cuong Street, Vinh Loc B Commune. Seeing that there was no one watching, they discussed stealing.
Dat took the crowbar and gave it to Tung, told Thanh to keep watch in front of the kiosk, while Binh drove Dat a bit further up to keep an eye out for passersby.
After using a crowbar to pry open the fence and kiosk door locks, Tung called Dat and Binh to run over. At this time, Dat and Tung went inside to get a coffee grinder and brought it out to give to Binh.
Then, both of them went back to carry the coffee maker onto the motorbike so that Thanh and Tung could take them to Dat's house first. Meanwhile, Dat drove the motorbike carrying Binh, holding a coffee grinder, and escaped in another direction.
When they arrived at Dat's boarding house, the group left the coffee maker and grinder in front of the house. Here, Tung asked Dat to advance 2.5 million VND from the sale of the stolen goods. Dat agreed and gave Tung the cash.
At noon on September 22, Dat went online to find places to buy used goods to find someone to sell the coffee maker and coffee grinder he had just stolen. A person named N. contacted him to ask to buy it.
After looking at the grinder and coffee maker, Mr. N. agreed to buy it for 10 million VND.
With the money, Dat divided one million dong for Binh and Thanh, divided another 1.5 million dong for Tung and kept 4 million dong for himself.
Dat, Binh, Tung, and Thanh spent all the money from selling the stolen property on personal use.
According to the Valuation Conclusion of the Property Valuation Council in Criminal Proceedings of Binh Chanh District, the coffee maker and the Maczzer coffee grinder (used) that the subjects stole from Ms. L. were valued at 74,750,000 VND. The exhibits in this case have now been recovered by the investigation agency.
At the same time, according to the investigation agency, during the arrest and quick testing, the group of subjects all tested positive for drugs and had many criminal records.
