The 7th Ninh Kieu, Can Tho Tourism Festival - Lantern Night 2024 will take place for 5 days, from December 28, 2024 - January 1, 2025, at Khai Luong canal and Ninh Kieu park, Tan An ward, Ninh Kieu district.
The festival has two highlight activities: the Opening Ceremony at 7:00 p.m. on December 30; and a light and water music performance on the river on the two nights of December 30-31.
As part of this series of events, on December 29, 2024, the Sailing Race on the Hau River officially took place at Bai Cat, Cai Khe Ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh - Permanent Vice Chairman of Ninh Kieu District People's Committee - Can Tho City said, "Tourism Festival - Ninh Kieu Lantern Night, Can Tho" is held for the seventh time and is an annual activity with a large scale and a typical highlight of the district in terms of cultural, artistic and sports activities associated with tourism development.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh added that within the framework of the Festival, there will be cultural and artistic exchange activities, folk games, street music; traditional musical instruments, and floating flower lanterns. In particular, to create diversity for the Festival's activities, for the first time, the district will organize a sailboat race.
“This activity will create something new, unique and attractive for tourists; to create a playground, build and develop the sailing racing movement with units and localities; thereby, contributing to promoting the development of water sports. The race is also an opportunity to introduce typical cultural features of the district's tourist attractions, making Ninh Kieu an attractive destination and leaving many impressions in the hearts of tourists", said Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh.
The race brings together 6 modern sailboats, 4.76m long, 2-person capacity, meeting international standards, ensuring safety and optimal performance. In addition to the sailboat race, locals and tourists can experience the 62-person sailboat right on the Hau River.
