Can Tho Police crack down on many gambling and smuggling cases

Can Tho - My Quoi Ward and Hoa Tu Commune Police caught red-handed cases related to illegal gambling and smuggled cigarette trading.

Information from Can Tho City Police, in the early days of 2026, the police forces of localities in the area have continuously discovered and handled many cases related to illegal gambling and the trading of smuggled cigarettes.

At about 9 pm on January 6, 2026, through grasping the situation and people's reports, Hoa Tu Commune Police suddenly raided the house of H.V.D (born in 1975, Hoa Binh hamlet, Hoa Tu commune). Here, functional forces caught 4 subjects red-handed fighting each other in the form of playing cards to advance and gamble with money. The police agency made a record, temporarily seized 1 set of 52-card cards, nearly 4 million VND and some related exhibits. The subjects were taken to headquarters to consolidate the file and handle according to legal regulations.

Previously, at about 10:20 am on January 2, 2026, My Quoi Ward Police received a report from people about suspected smuggling cigarettes at N.L grocery store (Vinh Tien area, My Quoi ward). Through inspection, functional forces caught Ms. T.N.L (born in 1969, owner of the grocery store) red-handed in the act of buying and selling smuggled cigarettes. At the scene, the police made a record and temporarily seized 90 packs of cigarettes to serve the handling work.

Then, at about 11:20 am on the same day, the My Quoi Ward Police force discovered a number of subjects gathering to gamble in the Vinh My area. Through inspection, 4 subjects were caught red-handed performing acts of gambling with money. The police temporarily seized 13 million VND and 2 sets of used cards.

Currently, the cases are being further verified and clarified by My Quoi Ward Police and strictly handled according to the provisions of law.
