On May 24, Central Party Committee member and Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy led a working delegation to visit the durian growing area in Krong Pac district (Dak Lak province). The trip aims to directly assess the production situation and quality management of durian, especially in the context of boosting official exports.

According to the People's Committee of Krong Pac district, the district has more than 8,000 hectares of durian, with an output of over 96,000 tons, estimated value of VND 5,280 to VND 6,240 billion. It is expected that in 2025, the area will be expanded to 9,600 hectares, with an output of 106,700 tons and a value of VND6,400 - 7,500 billion.
The district has actively built a safe growing area with 1,158 hectares reaching VietGAP, with 37 growing areas and 13 durian packaging facilities granted export codes to China.
Mr. Vo Thanh Toan, representative of Thien Tam Agricultural Products Trading Company Limited, shared: "The unit has the role of directly purchasing, processing, packaging and exporting agricultural products. In the past, we have worked with farmers to guide farming techniques and control product quality right from the garden. The company also conducts product quality assessment checks before purchasing and before shipping, to ensure that there are no banned substances and pesticide residues".
Mr. Toan also recommended that the authorities soon form centers for inspection and testing of agricultural product quality right in the locality. Thereby, helping the inspection process to be quick and convenient for businesses.

In the durian gardens of farmers, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment requested people, cooperatives, businesses, scientists, and state management agencies of Dak Lak to participate. The parties need to join hands and create a strong and sustainable chain of linkages in the durian industry.
The Minister of Agriculture and Environment said that when participating in the linkage, there must be clear binding regulations, forcing farmers and businesses to maintain sustainability with the linkage. Thus, it will create a sustainable durian industry, increasing value.
According to the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, when linking, businesses need to support people with techniques and solutions to be granted growing area codes...
State management agencies and enterprises need to direct farmers to production for export. Therefore, it is necessary to export durian to the most demanding markets, ensuring output with a stable price framework. Thus, farmers can feel secure in production, and businesses can also feel secure in investing.
According to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in 2024, the durian area reached nearly 180,000ha, the estimated production reached 1.5 million tons, the export turnover reached approximately US $ 3.2 billion, accounting for 47% of the total value of fruit and vegetables. The area of durian increased by 19.5%/year in the period of 2015 - 2024 and continued to expand quickly.
Recently, Vietnam's durian exports have encountered many difficulties at some times, affecting the export scale, added value, and profits of producers and enterprises. The main reason is that some countries have applied some additional control measures for Vietnam's durian exports.
