On April 29, on the Son River, the atmosphere in Phong Nha town (Bo Trach district) suddenly became bustling when the snakehead fish festival was held, attracting a large number of people and tourists to attend. This is an activity in a series of events to celebrate the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day April 30 and International Labor Day May 1.
The contest consists of two parts: a contest for big, beautiful fish and a contest for cooking dishes from fish. In the first round, each residential group will choose an "old ball" - a healthy, lively crab, placed in a glass tank for the judges to score. The criteria for evaluating "miss fish" include: bright color, balanced body, intact tail and especially healthy, flexible swimming.
After fierce competition, the title of "miss fish" has belonged to Xuan Tien residential group, with the stray fish meeting comprehensive beauty standards. Second and third prizes were awarded to Xuan Son and Trim Me residential groups respectively.
Not stopping there, the process of processing food from carp made the contest more exciting. The teams from Cu Lac 1, Cu Lac 2, Gia Tinh and Phong Nha residential quarters were talented with three creative dishes, beautifully presented, with bold flavor of the river. After presenting and grading, the first prize of the processing part belongs to the Cu Lac 2 residential team, thanks to the delicate dishes in the taste and rich local identity.
The Son River Carp Contest is not only an opportunity for people of the population groups to show off the most beautiful fish and the best food, but also an opportunity to promote the rich image of Son River, contributing to the development of community tourism. Thereby, the unique cultural values of Phong Nha - Ke Bang heritage land continue to be honored and spread to domestic and foreign tourists.
According to the Organizing Committee, the contest will be maintained annually to encourage crab farming households to continue to maintain quality, enhancing the Son River crab brand - a unique product of Quang Binh.
