The 2024 Phu Dong Bougainvillea Festival takes place from November 12 to 17, 2024 with the theme "Flower colors on the heritage land" including many cultural and artistic activities, exhibitions, performances of unique plastic arts and bougainvillea grafting, bringing many interesting experiences to visitors.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Duong Viet Cuong - Vice Chairman of Gia Lam District People's Committee said: ''This is the second year the district has organized the Phu Dong paper flower bonsai festival in response to the Hanoi creative design festival. In 2023, we participated for the first time and were recognized, acknowledged and highly appreciated by Hanoi City''.
According to Mr. Cuong, the famous bougainvillea bonsai craft village was formed more than 20 years ago. Initially, Phu Dong bougainvillea village only had a few households following the profession. Thanks to the skillful hands and minds of the people, along with suitable natural conditions and soil, the bougainvillea growing profession in Phu Dong has increasingly developed, becoming the main profession with hundreds of households growing bougainvillea.
"Over the past 3 months, the Phu Dong bougainvillea fields, which have "rose after the storm", are now brilliantly colored under the autumn sun, creating an extremely beautiful natural picture," Mr. Cuong emphasized.
Mr. Tran Xuan Tinh - Chairman of Phu Dong Commune People's Committee said that the whole commune currently has about 400 households growing bougainvillea, households have quickly crossbred and grafted into many shapes such as "falling, straight, horizontal, and curved". Unique and meaningful tree shapes such as "father and son welcoming the wind", "five blessings", "mother and son", "father and son", "brothers and brothers", ... meet the market's demand for flowers.
Notably, Phu Dong has bonsai paper flowers and five-color paper flowers that meet 3-star OCOP standards. In November 2020, the Hanoi People's Committee decided to recognize "Phu Dong Bonsai Paper Flower Craft Village".
On this occasion, the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Science and Technology granted the Certificate of registration of the trademark "Phu Dong Paper Flowers" to the Commune Farmers' Association.
