From scrap to works of art
At the Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA, Hanoi), more than 50 sculptures and installation works made entirely from scrap are attracting a large audience. This is the art world of Nguyen Quoc Dan, a visual artist who has spent many years feeling and creating from waste through the exhibition " issue recycling materials " Materia Renata". The exhibition takes place from July 5 to September 7.
Sharing about the creative process, the artist said that art is reborn from the feeling of scrap, because each piece of garbage carries its own story.
"Through the exhibition, I want to give the public another perspective, that the things that are thrown away can become the raw material for composition. Thereby spreading positive energy, urging the community to join hands to protect the environment", said artist Dan.
His style is called Anti-Cubism, a visual exploration practiced through the use of electric wires and industrial scrap. For him, the materials thrown away are fertile ground for regeneration. The appeal of works lies not only in the message but also in the visual power itself.

A profound reminder about a green lifestyle
Going beyond a simple art performance, Rebirth has touched viewers deep concerns about lifestyle and environmental responsibility. Many audiences realized that these materials were both familiar and unfamiliar.
"Every day I see them as garbage, but here everything is gathered, there is a different shape. It is like a question to realize the world I am living in, things that I have given up, said Ms. Diem Phuong, a tourist, reflecting.
This is the goal that artist Nguyen Quoc Dan and the curators aim to achieve, which is to use art as a bridge to spread the positive spirit about the ability to regenerate both material and mental health.
Mr. Dan emphasized: "I want to send a green living message to young people. Let's reuse waste and scrap together. We recycle as much as possible to increase the life cycle of the material, and more importantly, together we protect this Earth.
That message was strongly echoed through the assessment of curator Do Tuong Linh: "These works urge us to look back - not only to recognize the things thrown away, but to recognize a life full of resistance in them. A dam under the asphalt layer".
To spread more widely, the exhibition also organizes seminars and experiential workshops, bringing art closer to the public and nurturing awareness of a sustainable future. From an unknown bottle, Nguyen Quoc Dan told a story of hope, turning the art space into a lively forum for dialogue about the common future.
