On December 29, a representative of the Irrigation Investment and Construction Management Board 10 - the investor of the Southern Hau River Water Resources Control Project said that the Rach Mop boat lock project has completed 87.98% of the volume. The investor and contractor are speeding up construction, striving to complete the main items to be qualified to operate the saltwater prevention in the dry season of 2024-2025.

Rach Mop boat lock is located on Rach Mop river, bordering Nhon My commune, Ke Sach district and Song Phung commune, Long Phu district, belonging to the Southern Hau river water source control project in Soc Trang province. Rach Mop boat lock was started in January 2023 and is considered the largest saltwater prevention sluice in Soc Trang province with an investment cost of over 500 billion VND.
The culvert has a water clearance of 85m, including 2 compartments. Each compartment is 35m wide and 1 boat lock compartment is 15m wide. In addition, there are also auxiliary works such as management house, automatic monitoring system, embankment.
When completed, the project will help regulate, control salinity and store fresh water, helping to protect tens of thousands of hectares of fruit trees in Soc Trang.
The project to control water resources on the southern bank of the Hau River in Soc Trang province has a total cost of 900 billion VND. It includes 1 Rach Mop boat lock and 5 saltwater prevention sluices in Muong Khai 2, Tra Ech, Cai Trung, Cau Truong, Tra Quyt.
After completion, it will maintain fresh water, creating stable and sustainable production conditions for a natural area of 19,220 hectares in the districts of Ke Sach, Chau Thanh, Long Phu and Soc Trang City (Soc Trang Province). Minimize the impact caused by drought and salinity and create a source of fresh water support to respond to high salinity waves on the Hau River for a natural area of 36,710 hectares in the districts of Ke Sach, Chau Thanh (Soc Trang Province) and Chau Thanh district, Nga Bay City (Hau Giang Province).
