Khanh Hoa resolutely opposes IUU fishing, strives to remove yellow cards

Khanh Hoa has taken many strong measures to implement and contribute to the country in removing the IUU yellow card warning.

Currently, Khanh Hoa province has 5,272 fishing vessels with a length of 6m or more, 100% of which have been registered and updated on the Vnfishbase Database System.

The rate of fishing vessels licensed to exploit reached 99.72%. In particular, of the 1,514 fishing vessels with a length of 15m or more, 99.54% of vessels have installed voyage monitoring devices (VMS).

In the first 7 months of 2025, the total number of ships entering and leaving ports in Khanh Hoa was 16,361, the total output of aquatic products exploited through the ports inspected and controlled reached 23,454 tons.

The authorities have issued 384 certificates of seafood ingredients for 7,094 tons of seafood, and issued certificates for 153 batches of exploited seafood with a total output of 2,058 tons.

Violations in seafood exploitation are strictly handled according to regulations.

However, the work of combating IUU fishing in Khanh Hoa still faces some difficulties.

Specifically, the fishing ports in the South of the province have not established a Representative Office for Inspection and Control of Fisheries; the whole province still has 7 fishing vessels that have not installed VMS equipment; 813 fishing vessels are not qualified to operate; 113 fishing vessels are regularly transferred to fishing grounds, operating outside the province, causing difficulties in management and supervision.

The termination of IUU fishing is due to the goal of sustainable development of the fisheries sector, ensuring livelihoods for fishermen in Khanh Hoa in particular and the whole country in general.

Relevant ministries, branches, localities and agencies must innovate thinking according to the 6-clear motto (clear people, clear work, clear time, clear responsibilities, clear products, clear authority) to create change, achieve substantial results in combating IUU fishing and must be responsible if violations occur, affecting the EC's efforts to remove the IUU "yellow card" warning for Vietnamese fisheries.
