Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City - said that the Center was officially inaugurated in the joy and excitement of the Party Committee, government and people of Can Tho City in particular and the Mekong Delta in general.
Vice President Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep stated that the Preclinical Research Center is a key project built on a modern scale, including 3 operating rooms, mach interventions, experimental pathology, and clinical skills training that meet international standards.
The center was established with main goals such as: Serving scientific research in medicine, especially research on new treatment methods and new drugs. Previously, these studies were only conducted in developed countries, now they can be carried out right in Southeast Asia, especially in Vietnam.
At the same time, meet the needs of health development of the Party, State, Ministry of Health, serve medical universities and hospitals. In particular, the Center is a place to train and train clinical skills such as surgery, operational interventions, etc., thereby helping to reduce the risk of complications for patients.
According to Dr. Tran Chi Cuong - Director of S.I.S Can Tho International General Hospital, for the first time in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, a US-standard Preclinical Research Center (Animal Lab) has officially come into operation. This is an important milestone opening a new direction for development in medical practice research and training.
The Preclinical Research Center was established on the campus of S.I.S Can Tho International General Hospital, which will be the venue for animal testing on specialized medical equipment such as stents, coils, etc. Notably, these stents and coils are researched, manufactured and technology transferred by the hospital's team of doctors and engineers in coordination with experts from the United States.
This can be considered one of the pioneering breakthroughs in scientific research and development of science and technology by Vietnamese scientists, affirming the bravery of Vietnamese intelligence in the world, Dr. Tran Chi Cuong commented.
Previously, on June 13, S.I.S Can Tho International General Hospital successfully organized the 7th Stroke Intervention School Workshop in 2025 with the theme "Updated diagnosis and treatment of stroke - From theory to practice".
The workshop gathered about 300 domestic and foreign doctors and experts, with the participation of more than 20 international experts from the US, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Korea, Singapore, ... who are working in the field of neurology, emergency resuscitation, imaging diagnosis, and neurovascular intervention.
