On April 5, Mr. Tran Van Net - Secretary of the Dak Tang Commune Party Committee, Kon Plong District ( Kon Tum Province) said that the local government has sent officials to villages and hamlets to encourage and reassure people in the face of recent continuous earthquakes.
According to Mr. Net, many large and small earthquakes occurred in Dak Tang commune, near the Upper Kon Tum hydropower reservoir.
These earthquakes caused minor shakes in houses. However, local people have gradually adapted and proactively applied preventive measures.
Including leaving unstable houses, finding safe shelters such as under the floor, moving the elderly and children to safe areas...
From 2021 to now, Dak Tang commune has recorded hundreds of earthquakes. Local authorities have issued leaflets, instructing people on skills to cope with earthquakes, especially in case of landslides or natural disasters.

In the early years, when earthquakes occurred, people were very scared. But now, due to the frequency and gradual decrease in vibration, people have become somewhat calm and more adapted, Mr. Net shared.
However, the biggest concern is still the risk of earthquakes occurring during the rainy and stormy season. In particular, many households resettled after the Thuong Kon Tum hydropower project are currently living on hillsides, where there is a high risk of landslides if strong earthquakes appear.
Notably, on July 28, 2024, Kon Plong district recorded the strongest earthquake in more than 100 years, with an intensity of up to 5.0 degrees Richter.
This earthquake caused cracks in many construction works and public infrastructure.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that on April 4 alone, there were 6 consecutive earthquakes in Kon Plong district. Of which, 3 matches have reached the intensity of 3.4.
According to the Center for Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning, these earthquakes were identified as named estimated earthquakes, with a natural disaster risk level of 0.
Currently, experts are continuing to monitor and record the development of earthquakes in this area.
