On June 17, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee issued a Plan (No. 6638/KH-UBND) on the implementation of the Project to improve forest quality to preserve forest ecosystems and prevent and combat natural disasters by 2030.
In particular, the plan will focus on forest ecosystem conservation, enhancing natural disaster prevention capabilities, responding to climate change and sustainably developing the forestry sector.
Lam Dong province aims to have 84,230 hectares of special-use forests, 147,240 hectares of protective forests and 306,270 hectares of production forests by 2030.
Of which, about 84,802 hectares of poor forests and low-quality upstream protective forests will be improved in terms of reserves, biodiversity and structure to restore ecological function and increase protection capacity.
To achieve this goal, Lam Dong province has set a series of tasks to improve the quality of forests comprehensively and sustainably.
First of all, it is necessary to review and assess the current status of forests scientifically and accurately, thereby developing a suitable technical plan for each type of forest.
Forestry measures such as enclosing and promoting natural regeneration, additional planting, enrichment and forest farming will be applied flexibly by ecological zone.
Lam Dong province prioritizes the planting of indigenous, multi-purpose, high-resistance, high economic value, meeting the requirements of biodiversity conservation and increasing protection capacity.
Lam Dong also built a pilot model to improve forest quality in steep, dry areas with complex terrain. The results are monitored, summarized and replicated throughout the province.
Forest management according to sustainable standards is implemented synchronously with strict monitoring of forest use conversion activities, preventing abuse of forest land for illegal mineral exploitation, hydropower, and construction.
The plan also emphasizes the role of support policies and the integration of resources from national target programs, public investment capital and socialization.
People living near the forest benefit directly from forest environmental services, medicinal plant plant cultivation, ecotourism development, and the combined agricultural - forestry model.
Along with that, the province has increased propaganda, education and training on the role of forests in environmental protection, climate change response, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. The activities aim to raise awareness and capacity for the government, forest owners and the community.
Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee calls for the coordination of the entire political system, the active participation of people and businesses in forest protection and development.
This is a key, long-term task to ensure ecological security and improve the quality of life for the present and the future.
