On January 1, the leader of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee said that, implementing the National Strategy and National Action Plan on Green Growth for the 2021-2030 period, Quang Tri province has integrated green growth goals into the planning and 5-year and annual socio-economic development plans; focusing on restructuring the economy in conjunction with renewing the growth model, reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the exploitation and economical and efficient use of energy and resources. In particular, Quang Tri province has prioritized the field of energy security with renewable energy projects.
Before 2020, the total commercial power generation capacity of energy projects in Quang Tri only reached 437.3 MW with 10 hydropower projects, 2 wind power projects, 3 solar power projects, and 151 rooftop solar power systems.
To date, the total commercial power generation capacity of energy projects in the province is 1,119.5 MW with 20 wind power plants, 3 solar power plants of 119.6 MW, 10 hydropower plants of 167.5 MW and 151 rooftop solar power systems.
Thus, the total commercial power generation capacity of energy projects in the province by 2024 has increased more than 2.5 times compared to 2020, in which renewable energy projects account for the majority of the total power generation capacity in the province.
In Quang Tri, there are also 11 wind power projects with a capacity of 424 MW, 7 hydropower projects with a total capacity of 93 MW, 1 coal-fired thermal power project with a capacity of 1,320 MW, 2 gas-fired power projects with a total capacity of 1,840 MW that have had their planning and investment policies approved and are under construction.
Mr. Ha Sy Dong - Acting Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee said that it is forecasted that the hydrogen industry and hydrogen market (green fuel) will develop rapidly after 2025. To anticipate development in this field, Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee has directed to add green fuel development orientation to the provincial planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050; conduct research, determine investment locations and implement investment projects to produce hydrogen and ammonia from renewable energy with a capacity of over 120,000 tons/year.
