Prioritize quality over raising herd
At the Conference "Developing the Vietnamese aviculture industry according to the sustainable value chain", Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son - Chairman of the Vietnam aviculture Association affirmed that it is time for the industry to change its development thinking. Instead of focusing only on increasing output, the new goal is to improve quality, efficiency and added value at each stage of the production chain.
According to Mr. Son, chasing quantity is no longer suitable in the context of a saturated market, fluctuating prices, and a livestock environment under pressure from epidemics and climate change. In addition, land funds are increasingly narrowing, while current support policies still lack resources and are not accompanied by a strict monitoring mechanism. This makes it difficult for many businesses and households to expand the scale of livestock farming.

Not only that, the Vietnamese livestock industry also faces many major challenges such as fierce competition with imported poultry products. According to statistics from the Vietnam Poultry Association, each year Vietnam imports 270-300 thousand tons of frozen chicken. Not to mention, illegal import of poultry and poultry products is estimated at tens of millions of breeds and 100 tons of breeding chickens each year.
Most of the raw materials for animal feed, high-quality breeds, and modern equipment must be imported. 80.90% of animal feed materials, 100% of white-skinned chicken breeds, egg chickens, 70-80% of vaccines, veterinary drugs, and modern animal husbandry equipment must be imported. When a disruption occurred in the global supply chain, it will have a strong impact on the sustainable development of domestic livestock production.
Linking the development key chain
Faced with increasingly complex market fluctuations, the Vietnamese poultry industry needs a new strategic and synchronous direction to ensure sustainable development, enhance competitiveness and affirm its position in the domestic and international markets.
"It is time to change the thinking of developing the poultry economy. Instead of just chasing quantity, we focus on quality, efficiency and added value. Production value and added value will be the main measures for the sustainable development of the Vietnamese aviation industry, emphasized the Chairman of the Vietnam aviation Association.
To solve the above problems, the poultry industry needs to restructure comprehensively, building a development model based on value chain linkages. In particular, large enterprises need to play a leading role, supporting smaller actors such as livestock households and cooperatives by sharing technology, output and reasonable profits.
In addition, reorganizing the distribution system, enhancing technology application and improving communication capacity will help reduce costs, expand domestic consumption markets. Communication campaigns also need to focus on the health and nutritional benefits of clean, safe poultry products to change consumption habits, especially in the context of consumers increasingly paying attention to the origin and quality of food.
In addition, the formation of concentrated livestock areas with disease control, compliance with biosafety processes and quality certification is also a necessary step to meet export standards.
