According to the Draft Project to merge Bac Kan and Thai Nguyen provinces, the two localities will merge, named Thai Nguyen and the administrative center will be located in Thai Nguyen.
The new province after the merger has an area of 8,382 km2, a population of about 1.7 million people with 92 commune-level administrative units including 15 wards and 77 communes.
Before the merger, the two localities have many cultural and social similarities. This is an opportunity to create connections, promote development, and promise to become a bright spot in the midlands and mountainous areas of the North.
For the economy, Thai Nguyen is the industrial, educational and logistics center of the region. The presence of large corporations such as Samsung, industrial parks, and transport infrastructure helps the tea land shape its role as an "industrial gateway" in the Northern mountainous region.

Meanwhile, Bac Kan, despite its small scale, possesses its own strengths in forest resources, minerals, indigenous agricultural products and ecotourism potential.
The combination of an industrial and service production center with a diverse agricultural and forestry raw material area opens up opportunities for sustainable economic restructuring. The development space is expanded, the value chain is closely connected, creating conditions to attract investment in new fields.
Socially, the merger creates conditions to narrow the gap between urban and mountainous areas. Quality infrastructure, healthcare, and education systems are spread and connected more effectively. People in mountainous areas have good access to quality services.
Streamlining the apparatus also creates conditions for localities to focus resources and effectively implement social security policies. At the same time, the labor market will be expanded and become flexible.

The merger process also has many advantages when Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan have similar cultural identities. Both localities have diverse ethnic communities, traditional values, festivals, and unique customs and practices. When merging, it will create opportunities to expand regional identity.
At the same time, the province can build a comprehensive cultural development strategy. Linking the preservation and promotion of heritage values with the development of community tourism. This contributes to preserving traditions, promoting the economy and connecting the community.
The merger of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan is not simply an arrangement of administrative boundaries but also an opportunity for the locality to develop comprehensively. Create motivation to become the center of the Northern midland and mountainous region.
