Hai Phong - Farmers in Thanh Mien commune rush to harvest rice in the crop season, proactively prevent flooding and protect crops and livestock from storm No. 9.

Faced with the complicated developments of storm No. 9 (Ragasa) with strong intensity and the possibility of causing heavy rain and widespread flooding, farmers in Thanh Mien commune (Hai Phong city) are focusing on harvesting rice in the crop and implementing measures to protect production.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, storm No. 9 can cause strong winds and prolonged heavy rain, directly affecting many rice and vegetable areas. To minimize damage, farmers in Thanh Mien urgently harvest ripe rice, implementing the motto "greener at home than in the fields". Up to now, the whole commune has harvested about 50 hectares of rice, with an average yield of 58 quintals/ha.

For the area prepared for winter crop, people focus on quickly harvesting ripe rice to free up the soil. Agricultural cooperatives in the area proactively inspect and clear canals, ensuring timely drainage.

In case the rice falls due to storms, farmers are instructed to drain the water in the field, raise the rice by grasping 3-5 stumps in a natural incline, avoiding reversal and breaking the stumps.

For vegetables, people take advantage of harvesting the area that has reached the season, temporarily stopping sowing during the storm and preparing good seeds to sow immediately after the weather is stable. At the same time, people have also proactively reinforced barns, covered crops, cleared sewers to reduce flooding, and protected livestock and crops.

Thanh Mien Commune People's Committee requested village officials, production groups, and agricultural cooperatives to stay close to the area, regularly update information and guide people to effectively implement measures to prevent and combat storm No. 9, ensuring production safety and people's lives.
