According to the indictment, Nguyen Thuy Dung (born in 1990, residing in village 7, Hai Dong commune, Mong Cai city, Quang Ninh province) is a seafood trader at Hai Yen market, Mong Cai city.
Through social relationships, Dung met Ms. L.T.S (Tra Co Ward, Mong Cai City). Taking advantage of her trust, Dung provided false information that she had a large source of imported dried squid and products from the bird's nest, promising high profits to make Ms. L.T.S trust and transfer capital.
From January 2024 to April 2024, Ms. S transferred a total of VND 12.511 billion to Dung.
Of which, Dung returned Ms. S 7.028 billion VND as "interest and principal" to create trust. The remaining VND5.482 billion Dung used for gambling and personal expenses.
On June 1, 2024, when he was no longer able to pay "interest and profit" to Ms. S according to the agreement, Dung was discovered by Ms. S to have committed fraud and reported it to the police.
On March 28, 2025, the Trial Council sentenced defendant Nguyen Thuy Dung to 15 years in prison for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".
