Thunderstorms cause many casualties
On April 29, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention - Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Kon Tum province said that from the beginning of 2025 until now, the weather in this locality has continuously had complicated developments. Natural disasters have caused serious damage both to the economy and people's lives.
It is forecasted that during the April 30 and 1.5 holidays, Kon Tum will continue to have thunderstorms in the evening. During thunderstorms, people need to be on guard against tornadoes, lightning, hail and localized heavy rain. People are advised to stay away from power poles and broadcasting stations, and not take shelter from rain under temporary tents at construction sites, near works, hillsides or along streams.
In April 2025, Kon Tum province recorded at least three lightning strikes in Tu Mo Rong and Ngoc Hoi districts, killing 2 people and injuring 8 people and requiring hospitalization. In addition, the thunderstorms also blew off the roofs of dozens of houses in Sa Thay and Tu Mo Rong districts, breaking 7 electric poles in Kettel commune (Kon Tum city).

Prolonged rain causes landslides at power projects
Regarding infrastructure, on April 26, Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan - Chairman of Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee signed a decision to declare a natural disaster emergency at the Bo Y 220kV Cutting Station project, Ngoc Hoi district.
The reason is due to prolonged heavy rain, causing serious damage to the ground in the construction area. The concrete blocks were cracked, slid and fell into deep abyss, threatening the safety of the national power transmission system and directly affecting equipment at the cutting station as well as connecting power lines.
The 220kV Bo Y Cutting Station project is invested by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), assigned to the Power Project Management Board 2, with a total investment of 181 billion VND. The project is designed and supervised by Power Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company 4. This is an important project in importing electricity from Laos to Vietnam.

The construction of the station encountered many difficulties due to some foundation locations passing through natural forests. The project is located on complex terrain, partly on high hills and the rest is below the valley, with a volume of filled soil of up to 65,000 m3.
Faced with the serious landslide situation, the People's Committee of Kon Tum province has requested the Power Project Management Board to urgently report to EVN, and at the same time quickly develop a plan, mobilize necessary resources and funding to fix the problem, ensure safety for the project and the national power system.
