From the dream of military uniforms to the Coast Guard's boat dock
Born in the countryside of Thua Thien Hue with a rich revolutionary tradition, in a purely farming family, Tran Thanh Long grew up with the stories of grandparents, parents, and teachers about the soldier of "Uncle Ho's soldiers". Since then, the dream of wearing a blue military uniform has soon been in his heart.
In 2018, with effort and determination, Long passed the entrance exam to the Political Officer School. After graduating, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and in August 2023, was transferred to the position of Political Commissar of Coast Guard Ship 4038, Squadron 212, Squadron 21, Coast Guard Region 2 Command.
Entering a new working environment, he quickly adapted and applied the knowledge he had gained to complete his tasks well.
Major Nguyen Tuan Anh, Party Secretary - Political Commissar of Squadron 212, commented: Although he is a young officer of only 20 years old, in handling work, Long always adheres to principles, discusses and agrees with the Party Committee and commanders; is close to the life of the army, promptly shares and encourages, especially those in difficult circumstances. His teammates see him as both a commander and a trusted brother and friend.

Not only devoted to work, Senior Lieutenant Long also actively participated in online competitions of the force and the entire army. He has won many achievements: Special Prize "Learning about the Law of the Vietnam Coast Guard" (2021), First Prize of Week 2 "Learning about the history of special relations between Vietnam and Laos" (2022), Third Prize "Learning about the Law of the Border Guard of Vietnam" (2023), Second Prize "Learning about legal knowledge" in the People's Army Newspaper (2024), Excellent Prize in the "Skilled Mass Mobilization" Contest (2025)...
For Long, each competition is not only an opportunity to test knowledge but also a proactive learning journey, practicing critical thinking, information lookup skills, applying technology and adapting to time pressure. The important thing is that I learn to look at multi-dimensional issues, connect the community and spread the spirit of progress, he shared.
As Secretary of the Party Cell and Political Commissar of the Ship, Long focused on developing a scientific training plan that is suitable for reality; encouraging officers and soldiers to self-study and self-training. He linked studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology and morality with specific and practical actions; actively researched and applied new methods, creating conditions for soldiers to learn and improve their qualifications.
