The situation of drug crimes in the country in general, and Kien Giang province in particular, is still complicated with reckless methods, tricks, and sophistication, directly threatening the security, order, health and lives of the people. Faced with this situation, from the beginning of 2025 to now, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department - Kien Giang Provincial Police has synchronously deployed professional measures, resolutely attacking and suppressing drug crimes throughout the area.
From the beginning of 2025 to now, the Drug Crime Investigation Police force of the whole province has detected and arrested over 120 cases, nearly 180 subjects related to the acts of storing, transporting, buying, selling and organizing illegal use of drugs (a decrease of more than 20 cases compared to the same period last year).
However, the nature and level of danger of criminals tend to increase. The seized exhibits included more than 3.1 kg of various drugs, 1 pistol, 5 bullets, 2 cars and many other related tools and assets. The Investigation Police Agency has prosecuted 100 cases with 136 defendants.
Lieutenant Colonel Doan Quoc Thang - Deputy Head of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, Kien Giang Provincial Police said: "The Drug Crime Investigation Police force has proactively advised the Party Committee and the government and synchronously deployed many professional measures to effectively combat drug crimes. We focus on eliminating complex gathering places, dismantling drug trafficking and transportation rings, not allowing the formation of prolonged hot spots, affecting the security and order situation in the locality".
In particular, many major drug projects were successfully busted. Typically, recently on March 22, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department coordinated with Tho Son Commune Police to catch Nguyen Thanh Cong (born in 1993, residing in Son Binh Commune, Hon Dat District) red-handed with evidence of more than 0.8 kg of synthetic drugs. Searching the subject's residence, the authorities continued to seize nearly 1 kg of drugs.
Then, at around 4:30 a.m. on April 26, at a motel in Rach Gia City, the police caught Nguyen Minh Gioi (born in 1991, residing in Tra Vinh) red-handed while illegally transporting about 1kg of crystal meth. The subject confessed to bringing drugs from Ho Chi Minh City to Rach Gia City to deliver to a woman of unknown origin for a fee of 5 million VND.
In parallel with the fight against crime, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department also focuses on drug addiction treatment and support for drug addicts to reintegrate into the community. The force regularly mobilizes families to take addicts to drug rehabilitation facilities, and at the same time accompanies and supports them in the process of treatment, treatment, rehabilitation and vocational training. The Department also coordinates with local authorities to deploy drug rehabilitation models suitable to actual conditions.
Lieutenant Colonel Doan Quoc Thang said: "We closely coordinate with relevant agencies to implement drug addiction treatment and drug addict management in the community. At the same time, special attention should be paid to supporting post-resignation drug addicts with specific solutions such as psychological counseling, vocational training, job introduction... to help them soon stabilize their lives, limit relapse, contribute to ensuring social security and maintaining security and order".
Determining that drug prevention and control is the task of the entire political system and society, the unit has stepped up propaganda and mobilized people to raise awareness, actively participate in detecting and denouncing crimes. Thanks to the drastic participation of all levels, sectors and especially the proactiveness and consensus of the people, drug prevention and control work in the province has increasingly achieved many positive results.
