According to information from local people in Phuoc An A hamlet, My Phuoc commune (My Tu district, Soc Trang province), at around 7:00 a.m. on January 2, a human body was discovered on the My Phuoc river.
A woman living near the spot where the body was found said that at first people saw two arms raised above the water. People thought it was a mannequin thrown into the river, but when they got closer, they were shocked to discover that it was a human arm, while the body was submerged under the water. The information was immediately reported to the police.
Speaking by phone on the afternoon of January 2, a representative of the leader of My Phuoc commune (My Tu district, Soc Trang province) said that the authorities had examined the scene and the body and determined that the body discovered by the people that morning was the woman who fell into the river and went missing on the evening of January 1.
According to this leader, on the evening of January 1, in the commune, on the other side of the My Phuoc River, a woman rowed a boat to Phuoc An A hamlet to attend a party. On the way back, the boat capsized, causing the woman to fall into the river and go missing. Her family, relatives and local authorities searched but could not find her.
