Free, safe, and practical activities for children
According to a report from the Vinh Long Department of Health, in the first 6 months of 2025, the province has mobilized more than 26 billion VND to implement activities to protect, care for and educate children.
In the 2025 Action for Children Month alone, Vinh Long organizes many practical activities, attracting more than 9,700 children to participate. More than 8,400 children in difficult circumstances were given gifts, 262 children received scholarships, nearly 2,400 children learned to swim and thousands of children participated in summer camp, competition, and skill playground.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa in Long Chau ward said that her child is in elementary school, and she is very happy that since the beginning of the year, her child has participated in many beneficial activities organized by the locality.
Most recently, the child was able to learn to swim for free, classes were held near her home, and there was a dedicated teacher who guided her, helping her learn drowning prevention skills. The local activities are all free, safe, and practical for children.
"Many children are still "forgotten" with their phones or sent to unsafe places. This is part of the cause of drowning incidents, accidents, and even attacks that the press has reported in the past," Ms. Hoa added.
Meanwhile, Le Hoang Duy - a 4th grade student in Tra On commune - excitedly said: "This summer, I get free summer school in the commune, there are teachers who teach me drawing and singing, and I get to play games very fun. My favorite thing is to learn swimming with some friends. This is both fun and helps parents save money.
Don't let actions stop at slogans
Recognizing the positive results, Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hang - Director of the Department of Health of Vinh Long province - said that the health sector has synchronously implemented activities to care for the health, nutrition, spirit and provide material support for children in difficult circumstances.
Swimming classes, free medical examinations, skills competitions... are specific, practical actions that benefit children and families.
However, Ms. Hang frankly acknowledged that despite many positive changes, there are still cases of drowning, injuries and child abuse in some places.
This is a worrying issue, requiring not only regular attention but also the responsibility of close coordination between families, schools and the whole society to protect children effectively and sustainably.
According to Ms. Hang, in addition to more than 1.4 billion VND from the budget, most of the resources for child care come from socialization with more than 24.6 billion VND. Many gifts, scholarships, bicycles, charity houses... have contributed to sharing difficulties, supporting children to rise up.
"The month of action has ended, but the joy of the children still spreads. The important thing is that the action does not stop at the slogan, but needs to be maintained for a long time and more practically, emphasized the Director of the Department of Health.
