On March 31, information from Nghe An Provincial People's Committee said that in the past, many synchronous measures have been been implemented to thoroughly handle the situation of littering of pesticide packaging (BVTV) in the fields.
According to the Provincial People's Committee, propaganda work to raise awareness for people has been widely implemented over the years. From 2017 to present, the Department of Agriculture and Environment (formerly the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) has organized 180 conferences, training, and propaganda for about 9,000 people about collecting and treating the packaging of BVTV drugs after use. In addition, this content is also integrated into farmer training programs such as IPM, SRI, ICM, safe vegetable production, VietGAP, etc.
Along with propaganda work, the province also focuses on investing in building a system of BVTV drug packaging tank.
From 2013 to present, the whole province has installed 6,735 collection tanks in 78 communes in 6 districts. Yen Thanh district alone has 2,215 tanks located in 22 communes; of which Phuc Thanh commune has installed 170 tanks.
The province also focuses on resource allocation. Each year, the Provincial People's Committee allocates about 200-250 million VND to serve the collection and destruction of BVTV drug shells in accordance with the hazardous waste treatment process. In the period of 2022 - 2024 alone, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has directed the collection of 15,300 kg of hospital packaging.
However, the province also admitted that there are still cases of people burning packaging shells on the spot or collecting them incorrectly, affecting the environment and public health. The Provincial People's Committee pledged to continue directing relevant departments and branches to strengthen propaganda, supervision and effective implementation of the collection and destruction of hazardous waste in agricultural production.
According to Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De, this is one of the important contents to achieve the goal of sustainable agricultural development, ensuring ecological safety and health of people in Nghe An province.
