Ambassador Nguyen Phu Binh - Chairman of the Association for Communication with Overseas Vietnamese, Former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, said: Many countries in the world are facing serious consequences of climate change. In Vietnam, last year, super typhoon Yagi caused severe damage to both humans and nature - to give a profound warning about our living environment.
The task of planting forests and protecting the environment is no longer anyone's alone concern. That is the common mission of the entire nation, of each Vietnamese people, at home and abroad.
We believe that " Steps of Return" will be a place for the Vietnamese community everywhere to join hands for a green Vietnam, a practical action contributing to creating a healthy and sustainable living environment. Through this program, we hope to raise funds for long-term forestry activities - not only planting trees today, but sowing hope for the future".
Ms. Le Thuy Hanh - Deputy Organizing Committee added: "I believe that every child living away from home when returning to their hometown will bring a part of love, a part of memories and a part of the desire to contribute. "Return Steps" is the resonance of those aspirations - to together light up a green, peaceful, affectionate and lasting Vietnam".
The project " Steps of Returning - For a Green Vietnam" aims to connect the overseas Vietnamese community, arouse national spirit, and at the same time launch activities towards sustainable development such as afforestation, environmental protection, and support for the young generation of Vietnam to access education and indigenous culture.
With the message "Return to serve - Returning to spread love", the project hopes to not only be a return to geography, but also a return to the soul, culture, identity and national spirit. This is a journey connecting overseas Vietnamese with their homeland, so that every step of return sows the green of hope - the green of humanity - the green of sustainability.
