Kien Giang - In 2024, there were 15 fires in houses, agencies, businesses, and vehicles in the province; 38 forest fires, causing damage to nearly 408 hectares.

On the afternoon of March 6, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province held an online conference to summarize fire prevention, fire fighting and rescue, forest rescue and protection work in 2024.

According to the Steering Committee for Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue (PCCC and CHCN) in 2024, the whole province had 15 fires in houses, agencies, businesses, and vehicles. Of which, 1 fire caused serious damage, 13 were average fires, 1 was minor fires; 1 person died and property damage is estimated at more than 4.5 billion VND.

38 forest fires, causing damage to nearly 408 hectares of forest (more than 21 hectares of special-use forest, more than 385 hectares of protective forest). In addition, there were 3 accidents and 2 incidents, killing 3 people, injuring 7 people, blowing off the roofs of 33 houses, collapsing 28 houses, causing 2 electric poles to fall, and causing property damage estimated at 2.43 billion VND.

The cause of the fire was due to an electrical incident and power outage, accounting for more than 73%; the rest was carelessness in welding electricity, using fire sources, due to natural disasters.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment directs forest rangers to regularly patrol, inspect, and be on duty 24/7 every day, including holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays, to grasp the developments in forest fire prevention and fighting, proactively support forces, vehicles, and fire fighting equipment for localities and forest owners.

During the dry months, the whole province has arranged 95 stations, checkpoints, and camps with 517 forces on duty 24/7 in key areas with equipment and fire fighting equipment according to the "4 on-site" motto. The forest rangers coordinated with local authorities and forest owners to patrol and inspect 2,566 cases with more than 8,500 participants. The Forest Protection Force guides 906 households living along the forest to sign a commitment to carry out forest protection and fire prevention work...
