Having a child in kindergarten, Ms. An Nhi (District 6) was worried when her child kept coughing and had a runny nose for many days. Suspecting that her child had a respiratory disease, Ms. Nhi took her child to a nearby clinic for timely treatment.
"Because children have weak resistance, I suspected that my child might have some diseases right before the school year. Previously, my child had similar symptoms, so after monitoring him, I took him to the clinic," Nhi shared.
According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hai - Head of the Examination Department, Children's Hospital 2 (HCMC), since the beginning of September, the unit has received many cases of pediatric patients coming for examination for diseases such as respiratory, digestive and infectious diseases.
For respiratory diseases, common diseases are rhinopharyngitis, tonsillitis and rarely pneumonia. Common diseases of the digestive tract include digestive disorders and food infections. For infectious diseases, there are measles, dengue fever, and hand, foot and mouth disease.
There are 4 main causes of the disease such as erratic rain and sunshine with high frequency of rain, which are favorable conditions for bacteria to grow and cause disease.
Children move from a resting state to a learning state, most of them experience stress, anxiety, tension, and an incomplete immune system, which can make them susceptible to disease.
In addition, children will be exposed to a larger community than their home environment. Children can get sick from transmission methods such as boards, toys, etc. or forget to wash their hands before eating or after using the toilet.
To help children avoid these diseases, Dr. Hai recommends that parents should increase their children's resistance; practice the habit of going to bed early and waking up early; remind children to wash their hands before eating and after going to the toilet; and cover their mouth and nose when coughing to avoid infecting others.
For infectious diseases that have vaccines, parents should have their children fully vaccinated. In addition, when detecting signs of illness in children, parents should take them to see a doctor early and inform the teacher to avoid spreading the disease to other children in the class.
